"Private International Law in International Investment Contracts"

About the Speaker:

José Antonio Moreno Rodríguez is an internationally renowned arbitrator from Paraguay, held in high esteem for his expertise in commercial, sports, and investment arbitration. He currently chairs the Consultative Committee on Investment Contracts and UNIDROIT Principles and has been an active member of various international committees and organizations. He has lectured at multiple universities in Paraguay and around the world, as well as at The Hague Academy of International Law and MIDS (Master in International Dispute Settlement) in Geneva.

About the Topic:

In the third session of the Trialogues, José Antonio Moreno Rodríguez will delve into the relevance of private international law for international investment contracts and explore its relationship to domestic legal regimes, public international law, and international investment arbitration. Special emphasis will be given to the OAS Guide on the Law Applicable to International Investment Arbitration from 2024—the preparation for which Moreno Rodríguez was the rapporteur—and its relevance for resolving issues in international investment arbitration, as well as the current discussions under the UNIDROIT and the ICC Institute of World Business Law Working Group on International Investment Contracts.
The session will take place in a trilingual format, giving participants the chance to engage in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
