Current Research in Private International Law: Virtual Workshop with Eva Lein

 Tuesday, 2 September 2025, 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. (CEST)

"PIL and dispute resolution in times of crisis"

About the Speaker:

Eva Lein is Professor at Lausanne University and directs the Center for Comparative Law at the British Institute of International and Comparative Law in London, specialising in comparative law, international dispute resolution, and private international law.

About the Topic:

In times of polycrisis, the law is put to the challenge. In international commercial transactions the question is how law can safeguard commercial activity, avoid a plethora of disputes, and encourage a pragmatic legal environment conducive to global economic recovery. This contribution discusses how dispute settlement mechanisms and private international law can be used to responsibly manage disputes in this context and to appropriately respond to future crises.

About the Virtual Workshop Series:

The virtual workshop series “Current Research in Private International Law" is organised by Ralf Michaels and Philomena Hindermann. The series features guest speakers and Institute staff members who present and discuss their work on current developments and research topics in private international law. The workshops are geared to scholars who are researching in the field of private international law, but attendance is open to all individuals having an academic interest (including doctoral candidates and students).
