MPI-ASADIP Trialogues in Private International Law: Virtual Workshop with Hannah L. Buxbaum

Wednesday, 24 June 2026, 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. (CEST)

"Developments in the Use of Anti-Suit and Anti-Enforcement Injunctions"

About the Speaker:

Hannah L. Buxbaum is Professor of Law at the University of California-Davis. She is a leading expert in international jurisdiction, international litigation, and comparative law. She is active in many national and international organizations, including as a member of the Curatorium of the Hague Academy of International Law and the Institut de droit international.

About the Topic:

IIn the fourth session of the Trialogues, Hannah L. Buxbaum will examine recent developments in the use of anti-suit and anti-enforcement injunctions in the United States and in comparative perspective, analysing their role in managing conflicts arising in transnational litigation and arbitration. Special emphasis will be given to the exceptional nature of anti-enforcement injunctions, the challenges they pose to the strong and essentially universal policy in favour of res judicata, and the tensions they create with foreign legal systems.

The session will take place in a trilingual format, giving participants the chance to engage in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.

 About the Virtual Workshop Series:
